The perfect apple dumplings are warm and flaky…drizzled with the perfect cinnamon sugar syrup…wrapped in the perfect flaky pastry dough…served with the perfect ice cream…( Blue Bell, duh?!)

The perfect apple dumplings are soft and gooey on the bottom, but crispy on top.

Even though they may look very difficult to make, they actually aren’t…so easy and ridiculously good

So let’s get started…

***********

Ingredients

Apples…6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored…Choose any type of baking apple—such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Jonathanj, or Gala….You can go ahead and make these without peeling the apple first. They’re just as good. But the skin doesn’t get

Crust…For the crust, you can use either a store-bought or homemade double pie crust. You could also use refrigerated crescent roll dough.

Filling Ingredients…
  • 1-1/2C sugar
  • 1tsp vanilla
  • 8oz citrus-flavored soda—such as Mountain De
  • 1tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2tsp ginger
  • 1/2tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2tsp ground allspice or clove
  • 1/2C buttee
  • 3C water

********

Directions

Get ready to start making your apple dumplings…Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Butter 9×13 inch pan.

Prepare the pastry…On a lightly floured surface, roll pastry into a large rectangle, about 24 by 16 inches. Cut into 6 square pieces.

Shape the dumplings…Place an apple on each pastry square. Place butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar in the opening of each apple. Get your fingers slightly wet. Bring opposite corners of pastry square towards the top of the apple. Press together. Bring other two corners towards the top of the apple. Press together. Seal the apple in completely by slightly pinching the dough at the sides. Repeat with the remaining apples. Place in prepared baking dish.

Make the sauce…Combine water, sugar, vanilla, and butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil. Boil for five minutes, Carefully pour over dumplings.

Bake…Bake in preheated oven for an hour.
