Since I have decided to actually take this blogging thing a little more seriously this next year…I decided to actually designate a workspace and truly “set up shop.”
All of my posts have usually been written while sitting on my couch or bed with pajamas…actually my husband’s Army PT shirt…but supposedly working at a “real” desk in a “real” office and wearing “real” clothes will make it easier to get into a “real” business mindset…(we’ll see how long this lasts, and if)…
It also gave me an excuse to stock up on school supplies one more time since this will be the first year in twenty-six years that I won’t have a kid in public school…
So here’s my setting-up-shop shopping list…

1.  Binders—In 1886 Friedrich Soennecken from Bonn, Germany invented and patented both the first ring binders and a Papierlocher für Sammelmappen (“paper hole maker for folders”, or hole punch)….but the three-ring binder as most of us know it was designed and patented in 1904.

And most of us have been carrying some sort of binder, especially the prized Trapper Keeper, since the second grade…so I really don’t think that I need to explain them…just use them…
I prefer simple binders with simple loose leaf paper…not the fancy binders that you can get from Filofax, FranklinCovey, and Day-Timer that use a six- or seven-hole system…I prefer to spend money on more important things like pencils and pens.
I also prefer the A5 (5-1/2 x 8-1/2 Inches) binders with pockets on both the outside and the inside.

2. Computer with Wifi—Having a computer with wifi is honestly stating the obvious…but I would like to replace you Ipad with…or also have…an actual computer of sorts…Adding my search for a computer to the November section of my still-haven’t-even-started-it-yet editorial calendar…Happy Birthday to Me!!!

3.  Coffee Maker-–again, stating the obvious…very obvious…

4.  Cricut Cutting Machine—Still haven’t jumped on the bandwagon and bought one of these…not even sure that I would know what to do with it…but being that this is one of the first things that you see as you walk into JoAnn’s…and since one of my goals is to actually learn from blogging…gonna check this out…adding to December section so that I can do all sorts of projects in time for Christmas…

5.  Calendar—Put all the “it’s” that must be done on your phone or your google calendar or everywhere else that you might want, but most importantly…put your “it’s” on paper all together in one place…you might lose your phone and fail to charge your iPad and be “up a creek without a paddle” otherwise…

Finished my Day Designer planner from last year in June…start this new ban.do planner in August…one stopped on the last day of June…the other starts the first day of August…they’re smart enough to leave July out so that I might actually enjoy a staycation…

6.  Camera—This year I would like to take a photography class from a local university and get a decent camera …who knows, I might even take my “picture taking” skills that my daughters laugh to a whole new level of “actual photography”…

7.  Portable Hard Drive—I know that I should back up my computer weekly to make sure “nothing is ever lost”….will using this also make sure that I don’t upload my keys and the remote and cell phone too…

8.  Keyboard with Bluetooth—have it…love it…bought another one anyway…

9.  Printer/Scanner–already have this too…but spent some seeing which one I would buy if I had to replace the one that I have now…wireless… able to connect with my cell phone, Dropbox, Facebook, email, and so forth…will interrupt my planned editorial calendar if this should happen…
10.  Most Importantly—Basic Office Supplies—I totally love office supplies…my idea of a “perfect date” would be shopping at the Container Store and Staples while drinking Starbucks…
So I’m pretty certain that I will devote a chunk of my editorial to setting up an ideal home office when everything around you is anything but ideal…and an in-depth excursion through the aisles of pens, pencils, paper clips, Post It notes, paper, scissors, staplers, Sharpies, and Washi Tape…
